My Name is Lubeth "Lu" Manzo, the owner of American A-1 Waterprofing. This business means a great deal to me because it has been a part of my life for three decades. I started 19 years ago as a laborer, worked my way up to foreman, and eventually moved into sales. Along the way, I learned the business from the ground up—not only how to do the job correctly, but also how to treat customers with fairness, respect, and honesty.
American A-1 Waterproofing was founded by Roland Achtau, who was much more than just my boss; he was my mentor. He taught me the importance of quality workmanship, reliable waterproofing solutions, and always putting the customer first. When Roland was ready to retire, after owning it for 25 years and spending more time with his family, he entrusted me with carrying on with the business. That trust meant everything to me.
I took over the business five years ago. My goal has remained simple: to continue delivering the same quality, reliability, and personal service that our customers have always counted on. While ownership has changed, the values behind our work have remained exactly the same.
I am incredibly proud of the reputation we’ve built over the decades and thankful for the trust our customers continue to place in us. When a storm knocked down one of our downspouts, Lou made us a priority and had it repaired before the next round of severe weather. That kind of responsiveness is hard to find.

We had chronic water issues in both our crawl space and basement storage area. Years ago, we installed two sump pumps, but they only helped remove the water after it had already entered. We also tried sealing the walls with waterproof paint, but that didn’t solve the problem.
After dealing with water intrusion every time we had a heavy rainstorm, a relative recommended American A-1 Waterproofing. We called them, and they thoroughly inspected our crawl space and provided a fair estimate for the repairs.
The crew arrived as scheduled, completed the work professionally, and the results have been excellent. It has now been over three years since the repairs were completed, and we have not had any more water leaking into the crawl space.
